Vic Mensa- "All That Shines"

Vic Mensa has been releasing a new song every week and this week is no different. He has released a new track, "All That Shines," and it's pretty impressive. It reminds me of a Kanye track from back in the day. The beat is synth-driven and Vic flows on top effortlessly and showcases his singing voice as well. It's a nice track that shows how versatile Vic can be. His new project—Traffic—should be dropping soon.

Watch Vic Mensa Debut "3 AM" In LA

Vic Mensa should be releasing his new project, Traffic, sometime soon and while performing in LA he decided to debut a new song called "3 AM." The dark, slow-tempo song is a slight departure from the music Vic has made in the past, but it's a pretty solid song. And combined with "U Mad," there is a small indication of where his album is headed. Check out the performance above and look out for Traffic. Enjoy.

Vic Mensa- "U Mad (feat. Kanye West)"

Vic Mensa has been spending a lot of time with Kanye West lately. He was on stage with Kanye when he debuted "All Day" at this year's BRIT Awards. Kanye West joined him on stage in London when Vic performed his new single. Vic has now released his new single, "U Mad" with a verse from Mr. West himself. It's a banger, for sure. It will blow up on the radio and will keep people out of their seats all summer. I see its value as a single and I certainly see its value as promotion for Vic. It's a huge deal that he's gotten that co-sign from 'Ye. I'm interested on seeing what of type project Vic delivers. Enjoy.

Kanye West Debuts "All Day" at the 2015 BRIT Awards

So before Kanye revealed the CDQ version of his new song, "All Day," he debuted the song at the 2015 BRIT Awards. This performance has been met with criticism from many like Lionel Richie because of Kanye's use of the word 'nigga' and I'm sure they didn't like the mob of people with blowtorches that were on stage with him. In my opinion, this was a fantastic performance and the best way to debut this song. He performed the song on stage with many including Theophilus London, Allan Kingdom, Vic Mensa, and more. Despite there being so many people on stage, the performance did not seem chaotic; it seemed calculated. A mob of black men on stage moving together in unison and in an organized fashion? I think we know why people were mad. Kanye knows exactly what he's doing and it's wonderful. And Taylor Swift obviously enjoyed it so what more do you need lol? Check out the performance above ASAP (they're taking it offline everywhere), listen to the song featuring Theophilus London, Allan Kingdom, and Paul McCartney here, and buy it here.

XXL 2014 Freshman Class Roundtable (Parts 1 & 2)

The XXL Freshman Class Roundtable discussions are one of my favorite parts of the XXL season. Featured above are parts 1 (Kevin Gates, Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Isaiah Rashad & August Alsina) and 2 (Rich Homie Quan, Ty Dolla $ign & Lil Durk). They all discuss hip-hop and how it is categorized in the media and otherwise and how they view hip-hop. Stay tuned for updates on the last installment. Enjoy.

XXL just dropped off Part 1 of their 2014 Freshman Class Cyphers. Part 1 sees Kevin Gates and Vic Mensa dropping some verses to start with DJ Drama on the beat. August Alsina then drops a hook which is something new to the cyphers as they’ve added R&B artists this year. Isaiah Rashad and Chance the Rapper then finish the cypher off. It was decent. I’d have to go with Vic and Isaiah as my favorites. Enjoy.
